Dr Brian Freeman PhD
Clare Ballard DO
Dr Donald Hankinson DO
Susan Dorothea White |
Event: Embryology Meets Osteopathy 3 Day Conference
Venue: Guildhall Bath UK
Dates: 17th, 18th, 19th February 2012
Fee: £360 (Includes lunch & refreshments)
This three day event, held in the Georgian splendour of The Guildhall, Bath, U.K. will feature Dr Freeman's lectures, plus a rotated attendance at all three workshops for each delegate.
10 hours of lectures from Dr Brian Freeman PhD.
Entitled: Ebb and Flow. A course of lectures in dynamic embryology with special reference to changing balance, structures and their functions within the human body.
(Full lecture program available autumn 2011)
Dr Freeman is an embryologist and anatomist, whose work in the translation and forward to Dr Erich Blechschmidt'stext “A Biodynamic Approach to Development from Conception to Birth” has brought these truly wholistic concepts to the wider healthcare professions.
Dr Freeman's 2010 visit to the UK to lecture on Dr Blechschmidt's biodynamic model of embryology was oversubscribed, and those attending were delighted by the clarity and wholeness bought to these often difficult concepts.
Half day workshop from Clare Ballard D.O.
Entitled: Movement Meditation - Embodied Embryology, Fluid, Form, and Function.
Clare, an osteopath since 1977, has been fascinated by movement for many years and has explored different approaches; the embodied anatomy and developmental movement taught by Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen in Body-Mind Centering, The Javanese Movement teacher SupraptoSuryodarmo and non-stylised movement teacher Sandra Reeve. She is also a teacher with the Sutherland Cranial College.
Clare writes: We will explore embryology through the medium of movement and body awareness. Looking at a variety of themes from the formative metabolic movements and field qualities, structure, space, rhythm, tone quality, growth movements and patterns of organisation that still underlie our patterns of health.
By developing a sense of these movements in the present in our own body we can come closer to an understanding of how to work with these dynamic and powerful forces and fields in our practice life.
I hope we can also find support and nourishment for ourselves in our work by exploring these themes through the medium of movement.
Half day workshop with Dr Donald Hankinson D.O.
Entitled: Osteopathic Care of the Living Human Pelvis from an Embryologic Perspective.
Donald a graduate of New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1985, is a founding member of the Portland osteopathic children's centre, and has studied and taught with Dr Anne Wales since 1989. He is currently in family practice in Maine, and is an associate faculty member of the Biodynamics teaching program of Dr James Jealous.
Donald writes:Understanding the development and origin of structure, gives us deep insight into the organisational forces at work, past and present. This workshop is an introduction to the thinking behind utilising embryology as a therapeutic model for restoring health, and will include seated practical sessions in palpation and sensing.
Half day workshop with Susan Dorothea White
Entitled: Insights – How Visual Art Helps Us Understand the Human Body.
Susan Dorothea White is an internationally known artist with a career spanning 50 years. Her solo exhibitions include New York, Cologne, Amsterdam, Nice, Munich, Sydney, etc. She has a reputation as a teacher of drawing and lectures on anatomy–art. Susan co-established anatomy drawing workshops for the public at The University of New South Wales. Her book Draw Like Da Vinci (CassellMasterclass 2006; also published in French, Danish, Hungarian) addresses the fundamental principles of drawing. www.drawingonanatomy.com.au

Figurative artworks throughout history are analysed, with emphasis on the work of masters such as Leonardo, Michelangelo, Rodin, Camille Claudel, Schiele, and art from antiquity. Howartists express living anatomy will be discussed and explored in practicals with freehand drawing. The interactive workshop will demystify proportion, perspective, the golden mean, foreshortening, etc. Drawing pads, pencils and notes will be provided.
